The second annual Iowa Walleye Challenge will take place May 1 to June 30, 2023. This state-wide event is designed to encourage anglers to go out and catch walleye for prizes, and at the same time help fisheries biologists collect data on the fishery at a state-wide level. There are prizes for the longest fish, as well as prizes for the most fish caught and even prizes for those who go out and don’t catch anything. The prizes are structured in a way that provides the necessary data for biologists to best understand the state of the walleye fishery. By participating in this event, anglers are supporting fisheries research conducted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, so come on out and support fisheries science through this fun event. The Iowa Walleye Challenge is a Catch-Photo-Releaseevent that uses a mobile app called MyCatch to record the length of each fish caught. Anglers take a picture of the fish on a measuring device using the app, and once the fish is reviewed by the catch team and meets the rules, it appears on a live leaderboard where anglers can see who is in the lead. Anglers can sign up for the event by scanning the QR code below or visiting www.AnglersAtlas.com/event/680.
