Starting May 1, 2022 a new fishing tournament will be launched across the state of Iowa that is designed to encourage anglers to go out and catch walleye, and at the same time help fisheries biologists get a better sense of the walleye fishery across the state of Iowa. The event runs two months, wrapping up June 30, so there is lots of time to participate, with many weekly prizes. The Iowa Walleye Challenge is a Catch-Photo-Release event that uses a mobile app called MyCatch to record the length of a fish. Anglers take a picture of the fish on a measuring device using the app, and once the fish is reviewed by the catch team and meets the rules, it automatically appears on a live-leaderboard where anglers can see who is in the lead.
