Looking for a way to enjoy nature in a more leisurely way? Take a drive along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway. Running just south of Ottumwa, from Moravia to Donnellson, the 105-mile trail combines history and the great outdoors in breath-taking fashion.
The trail features numerous museums and historical sites, including Iowa’s oldest courthouse still in use, Iowa’s only Civil War battle site and landmarks along the Mormon Pioneer Trail. You can also explore a state park, lakes, forests and the Lower Des Moines River Water Trail. Along the way you’ll discover the breath-taking beauty of the Iowa countryside.
A complete map of the Historic Hills Scenic Byway is available at the Greater Ottumwa Convention & Visitors Bureau office in Bridge View Center or by visiting iowabyways.org. And when you visit greaterottumwacvb.org, you’ll find a Discover SE Iowa page that contains itineraries, events calendars and much more information about what to see and do along the Byway.
