The Dog

In the Ottumwa Cemetery sits a mysterious and touching statue of a dog . The life-size stone greyhound has been part of the cemetery since at least the turn of the 20th century. Legends swirl around the reason for the statue. Some say the statue was placed to honor the memory of a loved one, others say the statue is in remembrance of a pet, faithfully guarding the grave of its owner even after death. No one knows for certain, but the statue remains a poignant and beloved feature of the cemetery, quietly watching over the past.
